Faith Jumps
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17
What’s the worst life-scenario you can imagine..? Give this a try: you’re born into poverty in the mid-1800s, in an area of the UK where poverty is widespread. Not a great start. On top of that, you can’t read. And you’ve been picking turnips just to get by since an early age. Sad story… But a true one.
Bradford’s own Smith Wigglesworth is said to have seen twenty three people raised from the dead. A woman is said to have held her own cancer in her hand (right!?) after a faith-healing encounter with the Yorkshireman. Sight was given to the sightless, the voiceless found speech and the deaf could hear again. Crazy. Who would have known that despite where he came from, he’d turn out to be a hugely influential part of God’s Kingdom?
What was his secret? This legend of a guy had faith that came from reading one hardback only: The Bible. Smith learned to break through the illiteracy of his youth by reading it. Plus, he coined the motto- ‘Fear looks; faith jumps’. He had the courage to take God directly by His Word, living out the promises about joy, healing, and fulfillment, that kind of stuff. Imagine if you didn’t just read what God had to say, but truly believed it.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to step out in faith trusting Your Word and Your promises. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
