Approach with Confidence
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. Matthew 27:51
Brief history lesson: Long ago there was a time when the high priest would go through the temple curtain to enter the ‘Holy of Holies’ (where God’s presence was) once a year. And the only thing that qualified him to be there was the blood of a sacrificed lamb – nobody can physically come before God by themselves. The blood was placed above the Ark of the Covenant. What’s that? It contained God’s perfect standards, the ten commandments. Now fast-forward to the moment when Jesus died on the cross. The blood of the ‘lamb’ was shed again, for us. The Bible states that the temple curtain, that separated man from God, was torn in two (Matt. 27:51). And this is nothing less than wonderful news for us: when we reach out for God, when we seek God with honest hearts, He will reach back for us. Actually he is reaching for us first – will we grab his hand?
Which means that factually, without a doubt, no matter how you’re feeling today, you can ‘come boldly to the throne of our gracious God’ (Hebrews 4:16). Even if you feel undeserving, it doesn’t affect how much God longs for you to reach for Him. God doesn’t reside behind a curtain, He’s in us. HINT: ‘your body is a temple’ (1 Cor. 6:19)
