A Spiritual Checkup – Part 2
I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve. Jeremiah 17:10
How do you measure up when it comes to: 1) Obedience. ‘Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you’ (Hebrews 13:17). Do you consistently obey the things you know God wants you to do? Do you submit to the guidance of those God’s placed over you? Do you pray for them and thank God for the deposits they make into your life? 2) A pure heart. ‘If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness’ (1 John 1:8-9). Do you confess your sins specifically and by name? Do you purpose to forsake your sin the moment God reveals it to you? What about your unsurrendered areas? Are you willing to give up all sin for God? 3) A clear conscience. ‘I…strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men’ (Acts 24:16). Do you seek forgiveness from those you’ve offended? Is your conscience clear with God and man? 4) Confidence before God. ‘If our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight’ (1 John 3:21-22). Have you moved beyond merely ‘right or wrong’, and asked yourself, ‘How will this affect my confidence before God?’
You have One, Jesus, who was obedient for you, who is the only One who can give you a pure heart, and a clear conscience. Jesus is the only confidence before God. Praise and thank God for Jesus and that God has made you His in Christ!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me a pure heart and forgive me from those things I have done wrong in the past, all for the sake of Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for a new day in You! In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen
