God Gives Us Rest

“You rise up early, and go to bed late, and work hard for your food, all for nothing. For the Lord gives to His loved ones even while they sleep.” Psalm 127:2

We live 100 mile an hour lives. We are busy with work, school, family, friends. Can you imagine a life without rest? We would completely go crazy. Did you ever have to pull an all-nighter cramming for a final, or to frantically write that lab report that you procrastinated on? And the next morning in class were you wondering, when is this day ever going to end so that I can get some sleep? Thankfully we have been given the gift of rest. We were given rest before the fall. Perhaps God gave us rest so that we may relax in His grace. While we are working hard in our jobs, or pulling those all-nighters in school, we are doing nothing if we do not have God at the center of it.

God gives us the opportunity to work so that we can take care of our families, others, and ourselves. God places us in school so that we may better the world by finding our passions and careers. Because of that we work hard with thanksgiving to God for the opportunity to provide for our families, others, ourselves, or to receive an education. But we should still take the time to rest, so that we do not neglect the relationships we have with others and with God. It is important to spend time in the word, worship with fellow Christians, take time to pray, and focus on relationships with family and friends. Even when we are asleep God is good. He gives us time to not worry about anything, and just recover from the previous day and prepare for the next.

Prayer
Gracious God, help us to keep You at the center of our tasks for we know You are always good. Thank You for the gift of rest. May we always rest in Your grace. Amen
