Fruit of the Spirit; Faithfulness – Part 8

“By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

God is faithful to us. In the Old Testament he made a covenant with Israel to show his faithfulness. “Know therefore that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations.” (Dt. 9:7) But Israel never received a thousand generations of blessing because Israel was not faithful to God. There are three interesting things about God regarding this promise: 1: God knew from the beginning of time that they would not be able to keep his law and be faithful. That’s why He sent His son. “…he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.” (Heb 2:17) 2: God also knew that we would be no better at being faithful to Him than Israel was. “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.” (Heb 9:15) 3: God made this a royal covenant – from a king to his people. It was freely given by the King of kings and there was nothing we could do to earn it. Even though we will never be totally faithful to God, we need to show our thanks to Him for this marvelous gift by being as faithful as possible.

Dear Lord, thank You for being Faithful to me even though I do not deserve it because of my unfaithfulness to You. Please change my heart. Amen
