Somebody to Lean On

“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of Lord Jesus, how he himself said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

“We all need each other,” said a 32 year-old nurse name Diabate. She walked two miles in freezing temperatures, through 26 inches of snow, to her job as a nurse at a nursing home in the Bronx. Diabate said, “One day I will be a patient, and then I will have to lean on someone.” She was the only nurse that showed up for work that day because she had such a love for her patients. She treats them as if they were family. In Philippians Chapter 2, we read we should value others above ourselves. We should look at the interests of others, rather than our own interests. Being joined with Christ should give us encouragement, comfort from his love, and it should teach us compassion for others.

God became a servant on earth, and he showed us love, encouragement, and compassion for others. He showed us how to live a Christian life. We are in this life together. We need to care for and lift up one another. That might mean walking two miles through waist high snow to take care of those who need help, or being an ear to hear, or someone to share joys with, or being someone to lean on. We all need somebody to lean on, and we need to be that somebody for others.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, Your grace and love gives us comfort, and teaches us to have compassion for others. Help us to be somebody for others to lean on. Help us to value others over ourselves, and have the same mindset as You. Amen
