Rocky and Bullwinkle (Zombified)
“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
Some years ago my husband and I watched ‘The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle’, a movie combination of animation coupled with live actors. In a predictable plot, enemies Boris, Natasha and Fearless Leader cross over from cartoon land, entering the real world with a fiendish scheme; to zombify the universe. The evil plan of Fearless Leader is to hypnotize America, using RBTV (Really Bad TeleVision), making everyone’s mind mush, so he can go on TV, and get everyone to vote for him as President of the USA! (We’ll just leave it at that!) Rocky & Bullwinkle of course must now cross over as well, teaming up with a young F.B.I. agent, Karen Sympathy, in order to stop the evil trio. Sure, it was a silly movie but there is one scene where Rocky & Bullwinkle have their faces blurred out like they do in an interview where anonymity is necessary. In that scene, Rocky, speaking to the camera man quips, “Hey, give us back our faces!” Have you ever felt like that? You look in the mirror, your face a blur, your mind on autopilot and you fear you’re just going through the motions? Life can do that to us sometimes, but we must remember that this world is not our home. “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (Colossians 3:2). Our Lord does not want us to drift mindlessly through life but rather He desires that we live in the power of His presence, being change agents in a world that has been systematically zombified. The face of God is a blur in this dying world, yet as Christians we have the very One who can bring clarity to the lost, living in our hearts. We must never forget that on that day many will mourn, for they will see the One they have denied and will weep bitterly. “They will look on Me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.” (Zechariah 12:10). The day is coming when His face will no longer be blurred but with undeniable clarity, we will look upon the One we love (many upon the One whom they have pierced), but we will all see Him as He is. “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” (1 John 3:2). Fictitious cartoon characters will never save the world but you and I know Who has conquered and overcome; Jesus Christ. “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Commit today to live your life in such a way that when the face of Jesus becomes blurred in a zombified world, He can work through you, leading others to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to live my life in such a way that others will see the mystery of Your grace and mercy, living in me, In Jesus’ Name, amen.
This leaves me with tears. Again and again I fight the enemy as he wants to “zombify” me. A follower without care or concern for those who the Lord loves. I see it in the face of children….ignored, rejected. I see this in the face of elderly….”love me, I love you once”. Our enemy the world, complacency, selfishness. But, there is hope. There is Jesus. He has over come the world.
