Humpty Dumpty’s Fall

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

Remember the childhood nursery rhyme “Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, All the king’s horses and all the King’s men, Couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty together again.” Did you ever wonder why Humpty was sitting on a wall in the first place? Could this have been the equivalent to the proverbial “sitting on the fence?” Of course it’s all conjecture on our part because after all, it’s just a simple nursery rhyme. But do you ever feel like that? Like you were sitting on the fence of life, making no waves but making no progress, when all of a sudden you’ve taken a tumble and fallen so far that you fear the shattered and broken pieces of your life can never be realigned?

Do you feel alone in your struggle; misunderstood by family and friends? Let’s face it; sometimes even those closest to us are not always the most encouraging when we are in a fallen state. Sometimes people are uncomfortable with the plight of others for fear they themselves may fall into hardship by association. Therefore in an attempt to make themselves feel better, they give you the quick “God won’t give you more than you can handle” pep talk, then go on their way; and you’re still broken.

Did you know that your Father in heaven sees your brokenness, your failures, and your shortcomings? He “gets it!” Through it all, He divinely and completely loves you. Nothing in this world can keep His love away and that is a rock solid promise you can stand firm upon. (Romans 8:39).

God loves us so much that sometimes He must allow us to fall in order to pick us back up again. He is the Creator and Healer who can master all the pieces of your life and put them back in the original, intended order of His plan and purpose. When life breaks you, as surely it will (James 1:12) you have total assurance that the Creator of your soul is faithful and trustworthy, never abandoning His own (Deuteronomy 31:8). He binds up your wounds and repairs your broken heart. You don’t need all the king’s horses and all the king’s men. You simply need The King.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, through it all, the trials, disappointments and struggles of life, it is Your Word that fills my heart, instills joy and reminds me that You are faithful to Your promises. Take my broken pieces Lord and breathe new life into me, in the power of Your Son, Jesus Christ, amen.
