Which Dog Is In Charge?

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24

All of us have a boss. Even our boss has a boss. Recently a letter we received contained questions children had regarding our Comfort Dog ministry. My favorite question came from one of the children who asked, “Which dog is the boss?” Even a child recognizes the fact that someone has to be in charge.

In wisdom the Lord knew we would encounter workplace circumstances and challenges. He knew that man would posture and clamor for places of importance, pivoting himself against other workers in a competition of power. In Colossians 3:23-24 the Lord cuts to the chase and gives us the real focus and attitude we are to exhibit as workers in society; He is our Boss! Scripture reminds us that we are not working to please others but to please the Lord. When we serve an earthly boss we are demonstrating our willingness to serve the Lord in whatever capacity He has called us. The Lord gives opportunity to serve Him in all situations and circumstances. When the Lord is in it, all things work together for His kingdom purposes. No assignment from God is too great or too small. We must be careful not to approach assignments from the Lord with our attached addendums and change orders, determined to suit our personal needs and desires. Instead, in humility and obedience, we must greet each new day asking, “How can I serve You today, Lord?” Trust the Lord to give you what you need to do the task. Ask Him to increase the passion He placed within you, leading you to places of opportunity to use the gifts and talents He has entrusted to you. Pray, ask Him for His desire for your life and then serve Him wholly.

Heavenly Father, I submit my life desires to You, for You have called me to do the work of Your Kingdom. Open my eyes to see Your presence and purposes, in Jesus’s Name, amen.
