Blowin In the Wind

“You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm. Matthew 8:26

In the 1962 song “Blowin in the Wind,” songwriter Bob Dylan penned “How many times can a man turn his head, and pretend that he just doesn’t see?” His conclusion? “The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind.” How many times have we sought the Lord on the issues of life and felt like the answers were illusive and unattainable? How many times do we turn our heads and miss the miracles the Lord places in our lives? Recently a friend of mine was gifted a doll house measuring 4′ X 6′. It did not fit through a standard doorway and has to be kept on their screened porch, unprotected from the Chicago winters. Needing a tarp, he found none that were sized properly. While driving on a windy day, a tarp blew past his truck. Stopping, he gathered the tarp and brought it home. It turned out to be the exact size needed to preserve the exposed dollhouse. The answer to his prayer was literally, “blowin in the wind!” When the disciples were caught in a fearful wind they cried, “Teacher, don’t You care that we are perishing?”(Mark 4:38). Jesus rebuked the wind and in an instant all was calm. The Lord of the sunshine and calm is also the Lord of the storms and wind. (Ps. 29:10). No matter what challenge or adversity you are facing, God still rules over raging seas and stirring winds and He has the power to carry you through the toughest times of your life. Don’t be afraid of things you cannot control or understand. The disciples, in a moment of fear asked, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” The answer? He is Jesus, the Lover of your soul. (Psalm 31:7) So fix your eyes on Jesus, the Master of the wind. Don’t be afraid to step out on the water. Your loving Father will never let you fall.
