Already Overcome
They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Revelation 12:11
Jesus defeated Satan at the cross. And His victory is also our victory. His authority is also our authority. We must acknowledge the existence of the devil, but shouldn’t be afraid of him. The Bible says: ‘the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world’ (1 John 4:4). And God’s spirit is within us. ‘Don’t you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?’ (1 Corinthians 3:16). God is greater than Satan, He’s more powerful and He’s already been ultimately victorious. And we’ve got God on our side. ‘If God is for us, no one can defeat us’ (Romans 8:31). God’s given us the key to overcoming Satan’s power in our lives: ‘And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.’ When we understand that Jesus’ death means we’ve been given authority over Satan, and we’ve been given victory and the promise of eternal life, the devil’s schemes won’t affect us in the same way. And when we share our testimony, or our story about how God’s worked in our life, we build up our faith. Remembering what God’s done for us helps us to trust Him and to believe that He’s faithful. So when we feel like we’ve come under attack from the devil, we can know that we can rely on God to bring us through, just like every other time. However strong the attack may feel, we can overcome it when we remember that we’ve already been given the victory and we’ve got a trustworthy, faithful and good God with us every step of the way.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the victory over Satan because of Your victory. Help me rely on Your strength and not my own. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
