When You Die! Part 2
Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Corinthians 5:1
When you die, you simply leave a lesser form of life and enter a greater one. Consider the first law of thermodynamics: neither energy (as in your soul and spirit) nor matter (as in your body) can be destroyed. They can be transformed into other forms, but they can’t be annihilated.
Burris Jenkins said it this way: ‘No single atom in creation can go out of existence, according to the scientists; it only changes in form. We cannot burn up anything; we simply change it from a solid to a gaseous state. Neither is any energy or force ever destroyed; it is only changed from one form to another.’ If a person ceases to exist, they will be the one thing in the world that does. So when you die, what happens?
The Bible says:‘When these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven – God-made, not handmade – and we’ll never have to relocate our ‘tents’ again. Sometimes we can hardly wait to move – and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we’re tired of it! We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less’ (vv. 1-5).
Think of it like this: your last day on earth will be your best day ever! How awesome is that?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I long to be with You, but know until then You have work to do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
That is pretty awesome. Amazing that all scientists are not believers.
Tim – I really love your new Title! Thank you for your spiritual insights!
Tim:
Great reminder of our resurrection. Just as Jesus rose from the dead we will be raised. His body from life was changed but not replaced. He will display his wounds forever. A man forever but glorified body. We will be changed but not thrown away. Somehow we will maintain our body identity but in a glorified state. Even our bodies have hope in the resurrection. We should confess this hope and not destroy the hope of salvation our bodies yearn for. The fact of Christ’s body resurrection and our resurrection validates our existence now as real and on into eternity. I will be not a body subject to sin but glorified and made holy.
