“Fix your eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” Hebrews 12:2
Hi, everyone, happy Friday. I was just recalling a time when I was a little guy and I was with my mom. She was at one of those large department stores and she was shopping for an outfit that she needed. And that created an opportunity for me to feel very bored and so to make the best of it, I started doing what kids do. I made up an adventure and I was dodging in and out from enemies, and I was a soldier. And I remember I went into one of those round racks where all the clothes are, and that kind of became my fort. That was all good until I came out of my fort and realized that my mom had moved on and I had no idea where she was.
I had completely lost sight of her, and I began to cry out, and then I heard her voice. And while I had lost sight of her, she hadn’t lost sight of me. You know, it makes me think how many times that happens between us and God. We get so wrapped up into our own story, into our own version of life, or what’s happening, that we lose sight of our Savior.
And all of a sudden we look up and we wonder, where is He? Well, here’s the good news is even when you have found those moments where you have lost Jesus, He’s never lost sight of you. His eyes are on you. One of the encouragements for you as you go into this weekend is to consider Hebrews 12:2 “Fix your eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.”
That Greek word fix has this idea of staring intently, really remaining focused and tuned in. Now I want to encourage you, as you fix your eyes on Jesus this weekend, where is He leading? Where is He going? What’s He looking for? What’s He about to do? Don’t lose yourself into your plans this weekend. Instead, fix your eyes on Jesus and His plans that he has for you, this weekend.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You so much that You never lose sight of us, even when our eyes wander on to our own thoughts or our own emotions, or our own versions of what life is about, You know where we are at all times. And You call out to us and invite us to fix our eyes on You, to look intently where You’re going and what You’re doing and what You’re thinking and how You’re leading.
And so Jesus, help us to do that this weekend. Help us not to become so self-focused that we miss You. And we thank You for leading us to that great place, Lord, the place where we are going to be with You forever. That’s still ahead. And in the steps between now and then, help us then, Lord, to stay focused on You. It’s in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
I really appreciated this message on a hard Friday.
A very good daily devotion—God is our REFUGE and Strength
