“Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body. What you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body, more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or store away in barns. And yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:25-27
Hi, everyone. Happy Friday.
A reading from Matthew, chapter six – and Jesus speaks…
He says, “Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body.
I like the way that Corrie ten Boom kind of captured this idea of Jesus. When she said these words, “Worry is a cycle of inefficient thoughts whirling around a center of fear.”
That’s so true. Who of us, by worrying, can really accomplish anything? And yet what we’re called by Scripture to do is to trust and to pray. When we find ourselves in need or threatened by those unsettling thoughts of worry, we have an invitation from Our Savior to go to him and to pray. In fact, He says, “Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything.”
I pray that as you go into this weekend, that fear would not have any place in your life, but instead that you would have that trust and that faith and that confidence that Our Savior loves you way more than the birds. And he takes care of every one of your needs.
We remember all those who are hurting and suffering throughout the world. Those who are going through deep persecution and trouble. And we also give that over to the Lord, knowing that He is still at work.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you so much that we don’t have to worry because we know that You have Your eyes upon us. You see us. You know us. You know our need, even before we do. And You have promised that you are working for our good. Be with us and give us a great weekend. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A dear neighbor years ago gifted a book to me, 365 days of Tao. One of the days touched on worry. The monk stated that worry is concern gone out of control. If you have done all you can to solve a problem, worry will not make it go away. How many years have I tried and worried. No matter what God gives us the tools to help ourselves once we have done this, let God handle the rest.
