Happy Friday, everyone! A pastor asked an old farmer decked out in bib overalls to say grace for the morning breakfast. The farmer began, “Lord, I hate buttermilk”. The visiting pastor opened one eye to glance at the farmer and wonder where this was going. The farmer loudly proclaimed, “Lord, I hate lard”. Now the pastor was growing concerned. Without missing a beat, the farmer continued, “And Lord, you know, I don’t much care for raw white flour”. The pastor once again opened an eye to glance around the room, and saw that he wasn’t the only one feeling uncomfortable.
Then the farmer added, “But Lord, when you mix them all together and bake them, I do love warm, fresh biscuits. So Lord, when things come up that we don’t like, when life gets hard, when we don’t understand what You’re saying to us, help us to just relax and wait until You are done mixing. It will probably be even better than biscuits. Amen”.
You know, Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him”. You know, I pray that this weekend, if there’s maybe an ingredient or two that you’re tasting that’s not your favorite in life, pray that you be able to step back and realize that the Lord is mixing up something really good with all of the ingredients, even those that maybe are not our favorites. Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Prayer
Lord, thank you so much for always being so faithful and being so good. We know that Your word has made promises to us that the things that we encounter in life are things that You’re working, and working in, and through. And while there may be some times where we look at certain ingredients of life and say, “Oh, I don’t want that”.
We trust You, Lord. And we know that what You’re mixing up is going to be something that is leading us to a far better experience than where we might be right now. And so help us to trust You, help us to take refuge in You. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
