Gospel, Partnership, Gratitude – May 2, 2025

Happy Friday everyone. You know, the Apostle Paul said it best in Philippians 1:3-5, “I thank my God every time I remember you, and all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy, because of your partnership in the Gospel, from the first day until now.” Several of you have heard that I have received an honor this week. I was named the American Red Cross Disaster Hero. And the reality is, like Paul, I am truly grateful – not for personal recognition in this award, but really for Lutheran Church Charities staff, affiliates, volunteers and donors who truly deserve this honor. Every time I remember each of you, I thank God for your selfless service, comforting those in crisis and working behind the scenes, as well as making sure that the support is there so that we can be there when people are hurting.

You truly are a living example of Christ’s love. You have been partners in this ministry, and it’s because of you that all of this is possible. And so, as I received that award, I shared with everyone the amazing work that is being done throughout the country because we are one—we are one in the Body of Christ. This award isn’t mine, it’s ours.

And God has worked through our whole community to make this possible. So thank you! I am so grateful for you. In fact, let’s follow Paul’s example of gratitude. Who are the people in your life that you want to thank God for? Maybe a mentor who guided you, a friend who prayed for you, or volunteers who showed up when it mattered?

Take time this weekend to thank them. A call, a note or a hug with the words, “I thank God for you” can lift someone’s spirits. We are here because others invested in us. Let’s make sure they know how much they mean. I thank God for each of you, and together by God’s grace, we have helped those in need in sharing Christ’s love. And may we continue to serve together with joy and humility.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the partnership we share in the Gospel and for every volunteer, staff member and donor who has given of their heart and time and resources to serve others. Thank You for the unity and humility You have instilled in us. We know that every good thing we accomplish comes from Your hand, and so help us to continue working together in love, always giving You the glory.

And may each person hearing this feel appreciated and encouraged in the work that You’re accomplishing through Lutheran Church Charities. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
