Big Universe Reveals Bigger Power – May 19, 2025

“Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of His great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.” (Isaiah 40:26)

I had completed my last final in college before Thanksgiving break. A group of us piled into my 1973 Ford F-150—complete with vinyl seats, three on the tree, and enough room for three in the front and one in the bed of the pickup. Four of us took turns driving and riding straight through an 18-hour trip from Irvine, California, to Denver, Colorado.

Late in the night, it was my turn to ride in the back. We pulled over along a darkened stretch of a highway along I-70 to make the switch. I jumped out and headed to the back, and that’s when I was stopped—in awe and wonder—because as I looked up into the sky, it was a blanket of stars.

It was breathtakingly beautiful. I laid down in the back of that truck and stared up at this otherwise dark canvas, now painted and filled so incredibly with such bright light and beauty. It was one of the moments where you realize the vast size of our universe. The universe is big, but it reveals a bigger power. Consider, we can’t create one single star, and yet God has filled the sky with them.

In fact, we are still searching and discovering stars that He made, which reach beyond our own galaxy. And this verse came to mind: “Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of His great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.” (Isaiah 40:26)

May this meditation bring you to heartfelt worship and adoration of God’s power and the celebration of his incredible creation, which, by the way, includes you.

Prayer
Creator God, we marvel at the universe. Remind us that Your power is even greater. Fill our hearts as we worship You with awe and wonder. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
