Soul Garden – June 13, 2025

Happy Friday, everyone. Today is ‘National Weed Your Garden Day’. I don’t know, there is a day for everything. And, I do need to get in my garden now that I think about it, because there are weeds that are coming up. I don’t know about you, but, man, those weeds, they don’t really seem to need any help to grow, but one of the things that they will do is they will keep other good things from growing.

You know, that reminded me that really, that’s one of the encouragements from the Scripture – to make sure that we’re having that national, or daily, weeding out our souls. That’s something that the Lord calls us to. And in Colossians 3:5 we read these words, “So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.”

You know, the soul is the most important garden that we get to tend in this life. How do we make sure that those weeds aren’t sprouting up in our lives? One of the best things that we can do is to allow God to come in and show us where those weeds are starting to pop up. I’ve got to be honest, I use an app sometimes to figure out—is this a flower or is this a weed? We need God’s Word to do the same thing, “Is this a flower or is this a weed in my life?” And allow the Holy Spirit to, as David prayed, search our hearts, know everything and find if there’s any offensive way in us, Lord.

And then confessing that to Him and saying, “Lord, please help us uproot this out of our heart, out of our soul, that our garden might be beautiful as You intended it—full of the good fruit that the Holy Spirit brings.” Let’s take some time this weekend. It’s never a bad time to just simply do some self-reflection and allow the Lord to do some gardening work in your life.

Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You so much for this weekend. Thank You for another opportunity to serve You and to enjoy the life that You have given to us.

We confess to You, Lord, that, there are weeds in our garden. There are weeds that pop up in our soul, and our hearts, and our minds, in our actions. And we do need Your help to clean out that garden. Lord, as we give You this time this weekend to examine our hearts, search us and know us, find if there’s any offensive way in us and help us, Lord.

Help us to put those things to death, the death that you died on the cross and then bring to life the beautiful fruit that comes from Your Holy Spirit into our lives. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
