God is Found Faithful in the Past – June 30, 2025

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” (Psalm 77)

Hope is acknowledging that God is faithful, steadfast and true. God is faithful in the past. Steadfast in the present. True in the future to keeping his promises.

Hope for Christians starts with remembrance of God’s history. God is faithful in the past. He kept his promise to save Noah and his family from the flood. He kept his promise to Abraham and he gave him a son. He kept his promise to Abraham’s descendants, delivered them from the oppression of Pharaoh and walked them through the Red Sea.

He showed up at the altar in a fiery way for Elijah, putting false religion to shame. He knocked down a giant to the slaying of a shepherd boy. He gave victory in a promised land to his people from a land of giants. He did it again, and he freed and delivered a man who had been trapped by many demons.

He did it again when he raised Lazarus. He did it again when he himself conquered death in the grave, making a way where there was no way for sinners like you and like me. Hope means we know he did it then, and he will do it again. So take the time to recount his faithfulness in your past and remember as we are encouraged to do in Psalm 77: “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

Prayer
Faithful God, as we remember Your past faithfulness, let it strengthen our hope for today and for the future. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
