Happy Friday, everyone! One of sin’s most deceptive lies is that you can always leave whenever you want. But soon, what looked like freedom becomes a prison. Steve Farrar reminds us: “Sin will keep you longer than you wanted to stay.” Jesus spoke about this in John 8:34. He said: “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”
We think that we’re in control until we realize that sin has a hold on us that we can’t break on our own. Psalm 40:2 shows the freedom that we have because of Jesus’s strength, his strong arms, and his saving work. Psalm 40:2 says, “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”
No matter how long you’ve been stuck, Jesus can lift you out. If you feel trapped in something today, know this: God’s mercy is greater than your mess. His strength is stronger than your sin. He never leaves you in the pit.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that when we are trapped, we can call out to You, and You come for us. Help us confess what holds us and trust You to set us free. Amen.
