Happy Friday, everyone! In Mark 2:1-5 we read, “A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and lowered the mat their paralyzed friend was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, He said, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’”
Let that scene sit there with you. Four friends see a man in need and they go to the mat—literally. They see it. They embrace it. They carry it through the crowds and even through the roof—all to get him to Jesus. That’s Christian friendship. It doesn’t just notice the mat. It doesn’t just point at it. It lifts it. It carries it. It brings it to the one who can heal.
And the man on the mat—think about him. He let himself be carried. That is not easy. It was very public, left him very vulnerable. But healing doesn’t happen in hiding. It happens when we’re willing to be seen and willing to be carried.
So this weekend, are you the one on the mat? Let someone carry you. Let Jesus meet you. Are you the one with a friend on the mat? Don’t point. Don’t fix. Don’t shame. Just carry. Just bring. Just trust. Because Jesus still heals. And He honors faith that rips roofs.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for friends who carry us, for grace that refuses to give up on us—especially when we’re the one who finds ourselves on a mat. Give us the courage to be carried. When we’re the one doing the carrying, give us strength to keep going. Help us to see the need, to embrace it, and always to bring it to You. Because we know You are the one who heals. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
