You Can Rise Above Worry – Part One

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

Missionary Gladys Aylward said, ‘The eagle that soars in the upper air does not worry itself how it is to cross rivers.’ You can’t escape worry; it will come at you from different directions and in different forms. But like the eagle, you can rise above it.

Jesus said: ‘If you decide for God…it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion…Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds. Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever got taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion – do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers…The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers…don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?

‘What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God…fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works…Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow’ (vv. 25-34 MSG).

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me always keep the main thing the only thing, knowing You take care of the rest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. I read a thought about worry from a monk in a book about Tao. Worry is concern gone out of control, if you have done all you can do to resolve a problem worrying will not solve or make the problem go away. (Paraphrased)

  2. I was so worried my 9 yr old car wasn’t starting easily like normal . At the mechanic they said my 5 year old battery needed replacement but the Brakes were wore down to the rims and also needed replacement. I thank God my battery acted up. I could have had a bad accident due to brake failure! Then I saw this message today and want to testify HE IS REALLY taking care of us!
