Happy Friday, everyone. You know the corn behind me stands golden, dry, and ready. By this time next week, this field will be shaved absolutely clean, harvested and everything gathered in. But what looks like the end is really the purpose. You see, all summer, the fields stretched and strained toward this moment, not to stay green, but for the harvest of October.
Jesus said, “The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.” (Matthew 13:39). One day the great field of this world will be ready too. The sickle will swing, the wheat, and the weeds will be separated. That sounds sobering – and it is – but for those rooted in Christ, harvest isn’t a threat, it’s a promise.
For the faithful, the coming of the end of the age is about purpose, not meaninglessness. It is the reason why today, this weekend, every day matters most. Each day in a world that appears to be drying out is another step closer to when the Farmer will show up. And from what is dying, He will cast His angels and send His angels to harvest life eternal for all who repent and seek His salvation.
So if your world feels dry and brittle, don’t lose heart. The Farmer hasn’t forgotten his field. He’s just waiting for the right time, when every ear is full and every heart He’s planted by grace has ripened in faith. The harvest is near, and for those in Jesus, that’s very good news.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, we thank you for planting faith into our hearts. And at times this world does seem to be dying and drying out. And yet You told us that this was going to happen. In fact, You pointed to a great purpose in all of this world, that at the end of the age You’re going to come and You’re going to harvest life out of death. We thank You for the gift of eternal life that You gave to us through Jesus.
Help us to hold on to hope, to not lose heart, and to continue to see purpose in places where evil would have us believe otherwise. And with such hope, Lord, may we fill out our days with joy and peace and sharing the Good News of Your salvation. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
