The Third Strand – November 21, 2025

2025-11-21 PCS

Happy Friday, everyone! I’ve got two strands here and they’re joined together in this one knot, and it looks like if I do this, if I kind of weave them together, it might look like they’re actually connected and they’re really, really together. But the truth is, is that just two strands are not very strong. In fact, they can be easily pulled apart.

And that’s why anybody who knows anything about making sure that ropes are connected, they know the value of a braid. A braid actually takes two strands and adds a third. And that third is what these two find strength as they are woven and braided around this third strand. This is exactly what Scripture is getting at when it talks about this principle in Ecclesiastes 4. It says, “A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” There is strength found in that third.

You know, it makes me think a lot about the marriage relationship. When you have a husband and wife trying their hardest to stay together and to be bound together, they can look like things are really together. They recall that they were bound that one moment in time, their wedding day. But the reality is, is that with pressure and anxiety, they can really begin to come apart.

And that’s why we need Jesus. We need the forgiveness that he brings. We need the perfect love that he brings in our marriages. We need him to be able to provide the strength that we as humans are unable to attain by ourselves. And we pray for his blessing on all marriages this weekend. Let’s ask for his blessing.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You very much for coming and dying on the cross for the forgiveness of all of our sins. You demonstrated a love that will never fail. The reality is, is that even with our best motives and our best intentions, the reality is that we do fail.

Sin and selfishness continually cause separation and a pulling apart. The sin in the brokenness of this world causes anxiety and stress to pull at something that You have given as such an incredible gift, like marriage. And so, we ask Your blessing on all marriages. We pray that You would provide the love, the strength, the mercy, and the forgiveness they need – that they might find every single blessing You’ve ever intended for a husband and wife to enjoy.

And we pray this all in Jesus’ name. Amen.
