Happy Friday, everyone. I pray that your Thanksgiving was full of gratitude, so much so that let’s keep it going into this weekend. Let’s take a second to think about two little words we say all the time: THANK YOU. Did you know the word thank comes from an old word meaning “to think”? Originally, to thank someone meant to hold them in your thoughts with kindness, to recognize their goodness and let them know.
And in nearly every language, thank you carries the idea of grace—not payment, not duty, but a gift; something undeserved and given freely. There’s no better start than to think good thoughts about the love and kindness of our Savior. Psalm 107 encourages us to “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; and His love endures forever.”
The second word of thanks I want to express today on behalf of Lutheran Church Charities is to our volunteers—you who show up with compassion, consistency, and courage; to our donors who give so faithfully, empowering every act of mercy and comfort; to all of our ministry partners who open their doors and extend our reach; and especially to my staff team. Thank you for your sacrifice, your dedication, and your heart for the mission. I truly am grateful for each one of you.
As we celebrated this Thanksgiving—and let’s keep that going—let’s remember also that BEHIND EVERY GOOD deed is a story, and behind that story is someone who said yes. And ultimately, behind it all is Jesus. So again, let us continue with great thanksgiving in our hearts.
Prayer
Gracious God, thank You for the blessings of this day and for the people who make those blessings visible. Thank You for Your faithfulness in every season and Your love that endures forever. Let gratitude rise in us today, not just around our tables, but in every thought, every word, every deed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
