The Christmas season is marked by twinkling lights, glowing candles, and shining ornaments. But some of the brightest light we see this time of year doesn’t come from decorations.
It comes from kindness. When someone shows up with a meal, a hug, a note of encouragement.
When a team delivers comfort in a crisis or helps clean up after a disaster, those are moments when kindness breaks through the darkness.
And for the one receiving it, it may feel like the brightest light of all.
Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
Kindness is how we shine.
Just like silver tinsel, kindness doesn’t show off. It shows Jesus, the one behind it all.
At Lutheran Church Charities, we see this light every day in volunteers who travel miles to serve; in donors who give quietly and faithfully; in our staff who train, serve, and lead acts of kindness, especially at times that matter most.
Behind every act of kindness is a person willing to serve, willing to give, and willing to care.
The impact is real, and the light is lasting.
So this advent season, let your light shine. Serve with joy. Show kindness without hesitation … because behind every good deed is a good God, and His light still shines in the darkness.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for being the Light of the World. Help us reflect that light through kindness, love, and service. May the good we do bring glory to You and hope to others. Shine through us this season, Lord. In your name, Amen.
