Your Personal IV – TV?

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Galatians 6:7

TV is like a hospital drip. Drips quickly introduce fluids to the body if a patient is dehydrated or has lost a lot of fluid. But it can be harmful if the patient receives too much fluid. Even fatal. TV drip-feeds all sorts of things into your brain. Like advertisements. They’re to convince you about how your life could be better if only you had [insert name of sweet new product here]. Before long, you’ll find yourself thoroughly discontented, forgetting the truth of Philippians 4:19, that ‘God will provide all [your] needs.’ Or like romance and sex on TV. This turns bodies into spectacles. Even in camera angles and scenes that linger, the desirability of other people (even of models swishing their hair) are telling you how to focus your gaze. Don’t be surprised if you find it much harder to ‘Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable’ (Philippians 4:8). When we stop enjoying the goodness of people and life as God intended and instead see nothing more than products or bodies, our life shrinks.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me fix my thoughts (and time) on things that are honorable, right and pure. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
