Work Your Passion – Part 1
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 2 Timothy 1:6
The phrase ‘God-given talent’ can make people lazy. Yes, God did give us all talents. But they’re more like seeds, the potential for talents. It’s our job to grow them, nurture them, and ask God to direct them. We can’t just rely on the fact that they’re given by God to get us out of doing any hard work. ‘God-given talents’ quite often lie in the areas that excite us. The talents He wants us to grow normally appeal to us and fit with our abilities. We were, after all, crafted to fulfil them.
Think about cats. When they see a fly, they come alive. All big eyes and alert ears. They really love the chase. That’s because they were crafted to hunt. So when they get the opportunity to hone that skill, they jump at the chance (and at the fly). That’s because they love to do what God created them to do. And you’re the same. When you find the thing that you were made to do, your passion or sweet spot, the talent that you were built to love, you should want to jump at the chance to further it. You’ll know by the excitement that it stirs in your belly. It might not be jump-up-and-down exciting, but you’ll know deep down that you’ve found a passion. Just make sure that you put in the hard work to help it grow.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me continue to grow in the areas of passion that You have given me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
