Worth – Part 1

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12:7

Processed beef stuff on a sesame seed bun. Deep-fried pieces of something sorta chickeny. Roasted garden something on a stick. The junk food of Jesus’ day? Sparrow. You could buy two McSparrows for one copper coin or get five for an extra coin. Jesus used this illustration of the sparrow to show God’s care for us: ‘Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God … Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows’ (vv. 6-7). Today the illustration might sound more like this: ‘Does mechanically separated, diced and sliced chicken not go into a nugget? God remembers each as the chicken it once was. So don’t go thinking God doesn’t care what happens to you, because you’re far more precious than a chicken nugget.’ In what the world may ignore and consider of no value – God sees great value – in what you are and of what He wants to make you. You have worth to the Creator who can do great things with what may appear to others as worthless.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, remind me that my worth is determined by You and not others – and that worth is all that counts. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
