Can You Buy This Tale?

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year,’ the seasonal song goes. But shouldn’t it go, ‘It’s the most wonderfully weird time of the year’? Just what is going on?

Heaven opens up and places God into the birthing canal of a teenage Jewish girl. Modern science screams at us: impossible. And then God chooses to grow fingernails and soft elbows in amniotic fluid. Common sense tells us: unlikely. And angels watched on as God had His presence changed. Reverence says: not on my shift. And middle-eastern astrologers travel deserts on the promise of a light in the sky. Pride says: all sounds a bit new age-y to me. A few sheep and their guardians hear about it, but the rest of Bethlehem putter on with their 9 to 5. Logic whispers: far-fetched. A little over thirty years later He’s stretched upon a tree for the things you’ll do wrong in a few thousand years’ time. How on earth are we expected to buy a tale like this?

And yet as the bombs come crashing down in our world as well as on this year over two millennia later, perhaps a story about a God who was willing to enter into this mess is more needed than any other time in history. Merry Christmas.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, the unbelievable becomes believable when You enter my life to change it – to save it. Thank You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen
