Do I Trust You?

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

Perfect peace, the peace that passes all understanding, comes from keeping our mind on the Lord, and placing our complete trust in Him. Oftentimes trusting in God looks like this: “I will trust You Lord so long as I understand Your ways and that Your ways fit into my prearranged plans.” We halfheartedly trust yet wholeheartedly demand that He give us peace in all things, even when we are trusting in our own self efforts and achievements.

True peace comes from focusing on the Lord and His attributes. It is taking our eyes off of ourselves and acknowledging that without Him we can do nothing. Many times when we begin to experience a lack of peace it is because our minds have wandered away from the Lord. Stress and difficulty will surely come, but when we stay focused on the Lord amid the stressful times and difficult days, His peace will permeate our souls and occupy the places of doubt and fear.

People in our lives may have let us down and not been trustworthy. All of us have at one time or another experienced the disappointments of life and the discouragement felt when someone we thought we could trust turned out to be a foe rather than a friend. Satan loves to take our disappointing experiences and compel us to project this disappointment and distrust upon the Lord. It was his “go to” tactic in the Garden, “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say…..?” (Genesis 3:1) and it is still the devil’s strategy today. To cast a shadow of doubt on the faithfulness, goodness and trustworthiness of the God of all creation; and he’s good at it! But remember, scripture exposed Satan for who he is “the father of lies.” (John 8:44).

Immediately following Isaiah 26:3 the writer goes on to say in
verse 4; “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord is the Rock eternal.” There is no God like our God; He can be trusted.

Prayer
Father, help me to trust You when life’s difficulties and disappointments try to crowd my mind and rob me of Your peace. Lord, my mind is prone to wander. Let me echo the words of the Psalmist, “You are my refuge, my fortress, and my God in whom I trust!” (Psalm 91:2), In Jesus’ Name, Amen
