Come and Be Still

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

The Psalmist is finding refuge in God while the world faces fears and doubts. We look around us and everywhere it seems there is another attack, another shooting, another threat, another war. We often times say to God, “Why won’t You stop this?” “If You are almighty then You have the power to end this madness.” “How can You let this happen?” Instead of blaming God, we should put our trust in Him. God tells us to come and be still.

The Psalm offers the promise of the presence of God. We read in the Psalm that God is a life-sustaining river. This is comforting because we also read that humans are affected by sin, and sin creates rebellion. God tells us to come and be still. When we are still we are able to know Him as God. We are able to hear the truth that He will come and stop the rebellious ways. God is all powerful, which we are able to witness when we are still. God is exulted among the people and all creation. He is our refuge, which we can run to and be still. We know Him as our heavenly Father, the Holy Spirit, and the Son who came to earth to save us from our sin. His resurrection was powerful as He conquered sin, death, and the devil. He has already shown us His power, and someday when He comes again, He will put an end to rebellion once and for all. In the mean time, let us come to God and be still.

Prayer
Almighty God, this world can be sad and scary, so we thank You for being our refuge. We are able to run to You, and witness Your amazing power. You sent us Your son who saved us from sin. May we come to You, be still, and praise You for Your amazing power. Help us to not rebel, but to honor You in everything we do. Amen
