From Where Does My Help Come? – August 18, 2023

“Behold, I look up to the mountains, from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

Happy Friday, everyone. I’m here with my LCC team in Maui as we prepare to serve those who have been affected by these fires. It’s kind of interesting, I’ve been in the last three weeks with three different churches, and all three of them were named Emmanuel. And here I am again at a third Emmanuel Church in Maui. And I’m here to serve with them, alongside them, to support them and to help give them encouragement. And as I speak to their staff today, one of the words that I’m going to bring to them is from Psalm 121, “Behold, I look up to the mountains, from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” You know, at times that are difficult and challenging, we have a God who is the creator of all things.

He has all power, all authority, He also has all mercy and all grace for you. And I pray that just as this staff will hear these words today, and within these words of promise of God, they will find refuge and take comfort. So too, for you, I pray that you, no matter where you find yourself today, that you would take refuge and shelter in the truth that God, the Maker of Heaven and Earth is for you.

Prayer
Gracious God, we thank You very much that You are always with us. Even in the midst of troubling times and disasters, You are there. And I pray that You would show Yourself here in Maui to this community that You would again share with them through this word that You are their help.

And that help, most importantly, came through Your Son, Jesus. And we know that because of Jesus, we have nothing to fear. Not even death itself. We pray that You would bring all the resources that are needed here, but also, Lord, for us this weekend. Each of us is on a journey and each of us face some kinds of troubling scenes.

Remind us that You are with us, You are our help, and we pray this in the strong, and the mighty, and in the risen name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Have a great weekend, everyone.
