Step by Step to an Upright Heart – January 19, 2024

Psalm 32:8-11

Happy Friday. Well, two weeks ago, I had nothing but pieces. And then last week, I found the picture of the final product. And I kept digging in that drawer. And sure enough, guess what I found? I found the step-by-step instructions. I can’t even tell you how helpful this is. So, I took my time and I began to put piece by piece following each one of these steps and instructions and as it directed, I came up with this upright heart.

Now, this is great. And this is really how the Lord works in our life. You know, sometimes as we have a bunch of pieces and we follow Him step by step. He promises that one day we will be complete. In fact, that promise is echoed very early on to us as humans in Psalm 32:8-11:

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Do not be like the horse or the mule,
    which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
    or they will not come to you.
Many are the woes of the wicked,
    but the Lord’s unfailing love
    surrounds the one who trusts in him.
Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
    sing, all you who are upright in heart!

You know the Lord loves you and He’s working with you every single day. Trust in Him, following Him step by step.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, we thank You that You have come to us and You have given us Your word and Your instruction, and You’ve given to us Your Holy Spirit. That every day, step by step, we might continue to have Your righteousness built up in our lives as we learn more of what it means to follow You and to trust in You. And You promised us that on that day, that day that You will call us home, there will not be one piece that is left unattached, there won’t be one thing out of place, but everything according to Your plan and Your purpose for us in our lives will be complete. So Lord, help us with joy, to trust You, to follow You step by step as we look forward to the day when You will have us standing upright just like this heart. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

  1. What a beautiful analogy. Thank you, Pastor Singer, for leading us through these three devotions with your legos to further reassurance of our Heavenly Father’s divine love and care. Praying that our gracious God will continue to bless and keep you as He guides in your role with LCC.
