Happy Friday, everyone! Here is the fun fact of the day: even if a bear is wearing shoes and socks, he still has bare feet. I get it. That’s a pun. Sorry, apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. I get it from my dad, I love it.
Truth is though, that’s us too, isn’t it? Even when we lace up our best behavior, even when we walk in holy shoes and try to act the part, talk the part, serve the part. Truth is, we still have sinner’s feet. That’s the truth of the Christian life. “Simul Iustus et Peccator,” at the same time saint and sinner. We may dress ourselves in good works, but underneath we still limp. We still stumble. And some days… it stinks.
But here’s the better truth: even on our worst days, when we’re tracking mud and shame all over the place, it’s the Gospel — the Good News of Jesus, His salvation — that brings stinky sinner feet to be beautiful.
In fact, 1 Corinthians says, “You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:11). And because of that washing, our feet now carry that good news everywhere we go. And in fact, now we have feet that aren’t stinky. They’re actually called by Scripture as beautiful.
In fact, listen to the way Isaiah 52 says it: “How beautiful in the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns.” (Isaiah 52:7)
So yes, sinner’s feet — but also beautiful feet. Feet that carry good news. Feet that belong to someone who is forgiven, free, and still being made new each and every day. So let’s get these sinner feet walking — but walking in the beautiful righteousness of Jesus.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, we thank You for walking with us even when we stumble. Thank You for washing us, claiming us, and making us holy. Help us to walk today in that truth with beautiful feet that carry the message of Your salvation to all who will listen. We are forgiven, we are loved, and we are Yours. Bless us now this weekend. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
