Jesus the Scrabble Master – November 14, 2025

2025-11-14 PCS

Happy Friday, everyone! Little tiles, little points, but every letter matters. Every placement of those letters matters. You see, in Scrabble, every word scores. Well, our words score too, for life or for death, for healing or for harm. God explains this reality in Proverbs 18:21. It says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” So, pause for just a moment and ask, “How do my words score in the ears of those who hear them?”

Do they build up or break down? Do they lift a spirit, or do they wound one? Do they draw someone toward Christ, or push them away? Because words have power—a quiet thank you, a gentle correction, a small encouragement, a whispered prayer. Tiny tiles. Big impact. And this is why we need Jesus, because He is the Scrabble master.

Every one of His words works. Every word hits the board in the perfect place. Every word heals, restores, renews, and redeems. Yes, sometimes His words do sting. But they sting like medicine. Not to harm us, but to heal us. Not to shame us, but to call us back. Not to wound us, but to wake us up. Repentance spoken in love.

And every word of Jesus is spoken in love. So today and into the weekend, on phones and emails, in hallways and conversations, choose your tiles with care. Place them with grace. Slow down. Speak up. Build up. Your words count. Your words score. Your words matter. And Jesus stands ready to guide everyone.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, You alone have the words of eternal life. Let Your life-giving words be planted deeply in our hearts, so that, from the wellspring of Your life, our own words might bring healing, light, and life to all who hear us speak this weekend. Amen.

  1. I love the scrabble analogy! I have been trying to locate a pamphlet to give to people I meet that have never had religion in their life. More people have commented that they were never introduced to faith in their families and it just isn’t even a thought in their lives. I need a carefully worded pamphlet that might teach me what to say and that can get them thinking why they might want to even look at a faith in Jesus. I work with Seniors at Town & Country retirement home and I have the last crack at their souls. I’m at a loss for words on how to make Jesus relevant to them.

  2. Just to let you know, I thought today’s devotion was one your best yet! Thank you for posting this one. How important each word we speak!
