Being A Witness – April 20, 2026

2026-04-20-PCS

Jesus said, “You are witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:48)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples after opening their eyes to the greatest story ever told. His death, His resurrection, His victory over sin. They had seen it with their own eyes. They had touched His scar, heard His voice, and watched Him eat among them.

Jesus looked them in the eye and said, “You are my witnesses.”

This is not just a statement.
It’s a commissioning, a new identity, a holy assignment.

A witness doesn’t invent truth. A witness tells it. They speak of what they’ve seen and heard. They share their experience with honesty and courage.

And that’s what Jesus calls us to do. To tell what we’ve seen Him do in our lives. To testify to the mercy we’ve received, the freedom we found, and the grace that has changed us.

You don’t need a degree in theology or a perfect record to be His witness. You just need eyes that have seen His forgiveness, ears that have heard His Word, and a heart that’s been set free by His grace.

But let’s be honest, we often hesitate. We worry about saying the wrong thing. We fear how others might respond. We think, I’m not qualified. I’m not ready.

If you’ve ever felt that way, you’re not alone. The disciples did too.

That’s why Jesus didn’t stop with, “You are witnesses.”

He continued, “And behold, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you.” (Luke 24:49)

That promise was the Holy Spirit, the same spirit who turned fearful fishermen into fearless proclaimers, who gave voice to the voiceless, and boldness to the broken.

That same spirit clothes you with power today. He gives you the words to say, the wisdom to know when to speak, and the courage to share Christ’s story through your own.

You are His witness, not by choice, but by calling.
Not because of confidence, but because of grace.

And your testimony — redeemed by Jesus — is the proof that His power is still at work.

So testify.
Tell what you’ve seen.
Because somewhere someone is still sitting in the dark, waiting for a witness who will speak the truth that sets them free.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, You have made me Your witness. I confess I often let fear or doubt keep me silent. Fill me with Your Spirit’s power. Give me courage to speak, grace to listen, and faith to trust that You will work through my words. Let my life bear testimony to Your forgiveness and freedom. In Your holy name. Amen.
