Happy Friday, everyone!
You know, instead of telling God how bad your life is, try telling your life how good your God is.
Some days, it’s easy to focus on what’s wrong. After all, problems are real. Disappointments are real. Uncertainties are real. Yet remember that God knows all of those.
Scripture repeatedly invites us to do something different.
In Psalm 27, David writes, “Surely I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
When David wrote those words, he was surrounded by enemies filled with uncertainty and fear. And yet he chose to fix his eyes on the goodness of God.
Now notice what he didn’t say. He didn’t deny his troubles. He didn’t pretend that everything is okay. He didn’t ignore reality.
You know, with real problems, you will do better. Instead of denying to remember God’s goodness, David remembered a greater reality that God is good.
Wasn’t because his life was easy. It wasn’t because the danger was gone at that moment. Not because all the answers were suddenly clear to him.
God was good because God had always been good.
When fear whispered, David remembered.
He remembered God’s faithfulness.
When uncertainty surrounded him, David remembered God’s promises.
And when the enemies began to press in, David remembered God’s presence and that he was not alone.
That’s often what faith looks like in the real world. You don’t have all the answers. You don’t see the whole path, and you don’t have to pretend that everything’s okay.
Just remember and recall who God is and what He has done. The God who carried you before, He’ll carry you again. The God who provided before will provide again. The God who is faithful then will be faithful now.
So this weekend, spend less time rehearsing your problems and more time remembering God’s goodness, because His goodness is greater than your fear. His faithfulness is stronger than your uncertainty, and His promises are bigger than whatever you’re facing.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, as we go into this weekend, help us to recount Your goodness. Help us to call to mind so many of the great things that You have done, and so great the love that You have for us. Strengthen our faith no matter what we might be facing or going through, so that what we begin to see is Your goodness as the overwhelming strength of our life … as opposed to so often, Lord, when we get so focused on what is wrong and what is absolutely out of our control. Instead, remind us to recount Your goodness and to give You praise even in the middle of the storm. We pray that we would celebrate You, and we would celebrate Your goodness in such times. And that it would be a blessing to us, and that it would be a testimony to others of who You are. Bless us in this way this weekend, and we pray this in Jesus’s name. Amen.
Help us get this good news out, won’t you?
