Happy Friday, everyone!
Today, I’m standing in front of the childhood home of Michael Jackson — right here in Gary, IN. I’m actually on my way to visit all of our LERT teams that are serving so faithfully right now. I just happened to be here early and saw this on the map, so decided I would stop.
You know, it’s interesting because from this small house behind me came someone who would become one of the most famous entertainers the world has ever known.
Michael’s music crossed cultures.
His influence spanned generations.
His reach extended around the globe.
People called him the King of Pop.
That title is super interesting because throughout history we’ve given people the title “King.” We give them that title when they rise above everyone else in their field.
We have kings of music, kings of sports, kings of business, kings of entertainment.
But what we’re really saying is that no one does it better. Yet every earthly king has limits.
Every king gets older.
Every king is eventually replaced.
Every king has flaws.
Every king’s influence fades.
Even the greatest legends become history.
And that’s why the title we give to Jesus is different.
Scripture doesn’t call Him the King of Pop, the King of Israel, or even simply a king among many kings.
Revelation calls Him and defines Him this way: “He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.” (Revelation 19:16)
Jesus isn’t the Greatest One in one category. He’s the Greatest One over all categories.
His kingdom has no borders.
His authority has no rival.
His reign has no end.
Michael Jackson changed music. Jesus changes lives.
Jackson entertained millions. Jesus saves millions.
Michael’s songs are still heard around the world. But consider this: Jesus’s name is worshiped around the world and throughout the universe, and His song will never end.
And while every earthly king eventually leaves a legacy behind. The truth is, Jesus is alive today. That tomb is empty. The throne is occupied. The King is still on the throne because He is the King of kings and the Lord of Lords.
As we go into this weekend, let’s remember that and let’s worship Him.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You very much for being the King of kings. You are the greatest in all categories, and we worship You and we celebrate You. And we thank You for being the King. Be with us this weekend as we worship You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
