“I am not the Christ.” (John 1:20)

“I am not the Christ.” John 1:20.

When the religious leaders asked John the Baptist, “Who are you?,” John didn’t hesitate.

“I am not the Christ.”
“I am not Elijah.”
“I am not the prophet.”

John’s answer is not out of insecurity. It’s clarity.

John knew what his role was and what his role was not. He refused titles that did not belong to him. He protected the boundary between servant and savior.

Summer has a way of revealing this. There’s less structure. There’s more pressure to fix, manage, and solve.

Letting God be God means releasing roles we were never meant to carry.

You are not the Savior. And that’s not a loss.

It should be a relief because we have a Savior.
His name is Jesus.
Let’s pray to Him right now.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for the freedom of clarity. Help us lay down the rules You never gave us. Release us from saving, fixing, or rescuing, but give us the joy of simply following. For You are the Christ. We are not. It is in Your holy name we pray. Amen.
