Happy Friday, everyone!

Have you ever noticed how different a room looks once you turn the light on?

As a child, there may have been a coat hanging in the corner or a pile of clothes on a chair that looked like a monster in the dark.

But the moment the light comes on, what seems so frightening suddenly becomes clear.

You know, sometimes life can feel like that way too. We look at the brokenness around us, the anxiety, the depression, addiction, loneliness, grief, and trauma — and it can all seem overwhelming. The problems appear so large that we might begin to wonder if they would actually ever change. We certainly are frightened of their power.

Jesus understood that feeling, yet He spoke these words to His disciples. “Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Now, notice that Jesus doesn’t deny that there’s darkness. He acknowledges it, but He also reminds us that darkness will not have the final word — His victory does.

And that’s why Christians are always people of hope.

We don’t ignore suffering. We’re not Pollyanna. Nor do we pretend that it’s easy. Instead, we walk into hurting places, and we carry the light of Christ, confident that He is still bringing healing, restoring lives, and overcoming what once seemed impossible.

As you head into this weekend, don’t let the darkness convince you that hope has disappeared. Turn your eyes to the One who has already overcome the world, and then be willing to allow His light to shine all around you and into someone else’s life today.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for reminding us that You have overcome the world. When we’re tempted to focus only on the darkness around us, lift our eyes to Your victory. Fill us with hope. Strengthen us to walk beside those who are hurting and let Your light shine through us so others may see Your love and find hope in You. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
