Happy Friday, everyone!
I’ve been thinking a lot about the rain because, here in Chicago, we’re getting a lot more rain.
But I had a different frame. Rather than complaining about it, I thought, really, I should celebrate it. It’s a gift from God to the earth. That’s something that the earth needs. And even though it’s a little dark and dreary today and I’m a little tired of the rain, it’s good.
And then I came across Ephesians 1:8 that really kind of brought it all home. It says, “He has showered His kindness on us along with all wisdom and understanding.” That thought of God just pouring down and showering us with His kindness — that’s who we have in God.
We have so much kindness from Him. Mercy, forgiveness, love. He’s so good to us.
I pray that that is something that you might take time, and it’s easy sometimes to look at things one way and maybe be complaining and really kind of just grumbling. But there is an opportunity that the Lord opens up for us to maybe begin to appreciate the goodness, along with some of the bad and difficult things in our life.
And it’s true. He showers our lives with kindness. I pray that you would take time this weekend to reflect on that.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You very much for Your kindness shown to the world. Though we didn’t deserve it. You paid for all of our sin. You went there to the cross, and from that cross flows Your righteousness, which includes all kinds of mercy, forgiveness, kindness — stuff that you have continually showered upon us throughout our lives. I just want to pause this weekend and give You thanksgiving for those kinds of rain showers. And we would ask that You would continue to show us that kind of favor, that You would continue to shower down on us, things like wisdom and understanding, that we might continue to walk in the ways of Your righteousness. For we know there that the paths are straight and level, not crooked and bumpy like so many of the paths we have taken our lives when left to our own will or our own power. So thank You. Thank You for giving us the kindness and showing us the way. Jesus, You are the Way. You are the Truth. You are the Life. Be with us this weekend, and we pray this all in Jesus’s name. Amen.
