How Do I Get Into The Bible? – Part 2

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Ever got so attached to your mobile phone that you genuinely thought you could hear it go off when you were rooms away or outside? Or had that thing where you reach for it right before you get a text? You’re not psychic, you’re just a bit too used to your cell. Your brain is listening for what it expects.

When you’ve spent enough time in your Bible, you get deeper than the words, stories and rules on the surface. You go through them to get to God. After you’ve been reading and praying through it for a while, you intuitively learn God’s heart patterns, you listen for what to expect from His character, and in your real life decisions you can work out what to do much more simply. Wondering about who to hang out with? How much money to split between the needy and your own convenience? How far is too far in your relationship? When you really get to grips with the Bible, God’s truth becomes something you can feel in your bones, you can almost reach for it before you read ‘”This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people.”’ Jeremiah 31:33. It has ‘effectively worked in you’ and has become second nature.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, as I meditate on Your Word, help me surrender to it (and to You) and have it (and You) fill my mind. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
